ST. BENEDICT’S CHURCH VIEW FROM OWEN STREET

BRIEF FROM HISTORY

St. Benedict’s RC Church, Atherstone was established in 1859. Its architect was Charles Alban Buckler (1824-1905) who was a proponent of the Victorian Neo-Gothic style. The exterior of the church has changed little over the years but the interior has been extensively modernised and renovated. The local Catholic community is relatively small but very active and friendly. Numerous events occur annually, including a Summer fete and Autumn Fayre. The Church Hall is used every Sunday for Children’s Liturgy, morning coffee for the parishioners after Mass and other social functions throughout the year. The parish has strong links with the local RC Primary School, also called St. Benedicts.
